Finding it difficult to find an n95 mask?
Has the price gotten rediculous for a disposable mask and you need it for work?
I will teach you how to make your own using commercially available materials. In addition to showing the method for making an n95 equivalent mask, I will teach you how to calculate filter efficiencies from materials that you can still find commercially.
*Let me define some terms here. According to fda.gov, an n95 mask (respirator) is defined as follows: “The ‘N95’ designation means that when subjected to careful testing, the respirator blocks at least 95 percent of very small (0.3 micron) test particles. If properly fitted, the filtration capabilities of N95 respirators exceed those of face masks. However, even a properly fitted N95 respirator does not completely eliminate the risk of illness or death.” For clarity let me say right now that the materials described in the book have NOT been tested according to the protocols required for an n95 respirator designation. The materials have, however, been shown to eliminate particles down to the 0.3 micron size with specific capability. With the methods described you will be able to leverage these materials to get equivalent removal rates.
Please also note the term “properly fitted” in the fda definition. I will also describe a method for fitting the mask to nearly any face shape and checking for bypass leaks.
